What do I teach?
I offer one-to-one tuition in piano, organ,
electronic keyboard, and music theory. Musical understanding
and appreciation go hand-in-hand with a sound, natural instrumental
technique, therefore a thorough grounding in relevant musical theory
comes as standard.
Whom do I teach?
Students of all ages and abilities learn and
are welcome to learn with me, from complete
beginners to University level. Those wishing to brush up on
old skills - no matter how long the break! - or who wish to try
something that they have always wanted are especially
sought after.
Where do I teach?
Piano, keyboard and theory lessons are given at my home
on the north side of Edinburgh, 10 minutes bus-ride from the
city centre.
Organ lessons take place at my church, Pilrig St.Paul's, a prominent
gothic-style building situated about halfway up (or down!) Leith Walk, 10
minutes walk from the Playhouse Theatre.
How long are lessons and how much do they cost?
This depends really on the age and current standard of
the individual; beginners are better with half-hour lessons,
and advanced or adult students up to an hour - hour-and-a-half. My
rate is £12 per half-hour or £20 per hour.
Why do I teach?
I have been very privileged to have had a first-class
musical education at one of the top Conservatoires in
Europe. I have a desire to pass on the knowledge I have
gained and I am of the viewpoint that teaching is just as
important a facet as performance in any musician's career.
